In Canada, the compulsory education is highly popularized and covers wide fields. They popularize 12-year education is from elementary school to middle school. They can directly enter into college after graduating from senior high school. According to agreement agreed between Canada and China, China State Educational Committee will acknowledge those universities that are authorized by Canada government.
There are over 70 universities in Canada and each diploma is acknowledged by the whole world. The university has autumn semester (Sep. to Dec.) and spring semester (Jan. to Apr.). In summer (May to Aug.), students also take some curricula as their selective subject. The university undergraduate course is generally for four years and each subject practice the credit system. There is no college entrance examination, but you may apply for the university depending on your own capabilities ,identification materials and recommendation letters.
Besides university, students may also choose community college, institute or private vocational school. They major in training employment skills and courses last one to three years. They will get the certificate or general college degree after graduation.
As for those students from Asia to Canada, the university pays much attention to students’ English reach a certain level, besides requests the students did well in the courses and bear good behaviors. All universities in Canada request English test result (TOEFL or IELTS) except on special case. For example, the students have studied for 2 to 5 years in the entire English education or have studied the first year English curriculum in the approval university.
It is not easy to get the entrance to Canada university undergraduate course directly without TOEFL or IELTS test result for most students from Asia. So they have to study firstly ESL(English as Second Language) course that is set especially for those whose mother tone is not English in social institute or college to improve their English. There are three semesters every year and each semester expense is around CAD$3500-5600. They can apply for study university undergraduate course after reaching university requested English level.(TOEFL, over 550 scores)
Canada social institute or college can provide various certificate and diploma courses and can award students the bachelor’s degree and master’s degree. The students in social institute or college can also enter into university for further education.
