The
global economy are focusing on Asia-Pacific region nowadays. In order to
seize the opportunity for more cooperation and future development, the government
of Canada announced its Pacific Plan in October 2005. Prime Minister Stephen
Harper declared that the Canadian government would invest 300million Canadian
dollars in this program and they would do all their best to improve the
British Columbia to become a key hub for Asia-Pacific economy and trading
cooperation.
According
to report statistics, the volume of export to China from Canada increases
three times in 2005 than the previous year and the volume of export to Canada
from China increases 30%.The trade volume of British Columbia with the Asia-Pacific
region accounts 25% of the total trade volume of Canada. In the near future.
The economic development of Canada will been stimulated with the cooperation
and tie of the high speed economic development of China.
In this case, the governor of British Columbia, Jordon Campbell had leaded
a delegation to visit China three times so far.He highlighted that beside
the geographic advantage , the overseas Chinese are the big asserts of British
Columbia. He also called for the overseas Chinese to seize the opportunities
to increase more business cooperation with counterparts from Asia-Pacific
region.
Mr.
Jordon Campbell, the only consecutive governor of B.C. Canada who won the
reappointment in the recent 20 years, is a strategic and practical leader.
He wins B.C. people’s support because his strategies of Policy-maker Should
Be and Regards Economy as Point make the increment rate of B.C. province
up to the top from the bottom grade among provinces and make the unemployment
rate decrease to the lowest in the recent 25 years. Mr. Jordon Campbell
insists on promoting the strategy of Pacific Plan. He said that B.C. province
was the bridge connecting Canada and newly Asia, especially for China. He
stressed that B.C. Canada should be the first to intercommunicate with China
and he believes B.C. province would have a brilliant future only when keeping
pace with time and grasping the good chances.
Governor
Mr. Jordon Campbell pointed out what “favorable climatic, geographical and
human conditions; favorable climate and geographical position and support
of the people” were. Firstly, the over 500 thousand immigrants from China
is the most important resource in B.C. province and the key bridge between
B.C. Canada and China. Secondly, B.C. province is full of resources such
as wood, miner, traveling, harbors and education. Thirdly, the allocated
fund over 300 million Canada Dollars by Federation Government and the support
from Prime Minister will promote B.C. province to be the important transport
links and its development. Fourthly, 2008 Beijing Olympic Games and 2010
Vancouver Winter-Olympic Games will bring large business opportunities to
B.C. province.
It
is reported that 62 pieces of suggestions have been increased to develop
the cooperation between B.C. Canada and China including wood, miner, oil,
education, travel and so on. And the Asia-Pacific trade committee of B.C.
province also suggests building city web so that about 10 cities in B.C.
Canada can communicate with Chinese cities easier. Mr. Jordon Campbell requires
that the government must regard Asia-Pacific area as its key duty and each
department must take an active part in coordination by a certain fiscal
budget and fund to promote Pacific Plan and take 10 years to build long-term
relationships.
The
governor Mr. Jordon Campbell stated he will do his utmost to develop the
mutual and reciprocal benefits among Canada with China, Japan, South Korea,
India and other southwest countries. He said “our vision is to gaze the
world, and the world similarly is also paying attention to us”. He believes
the win-win situation will be shown through active cooperation.
CITCC hopes that the members in Canada and Chinese people in B.C. province
can take an active part in business to promote the cooperation of B.C. Canada
with China according to governor’s advocating. If any suggestion, please
contact CITCC Vancouver office without any hesitation.
